Morocco is considered as one of the privileged partners of German international technical cooperation in the Mediterranean region. Since 1975, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH has supported its Moroccan partners in promoting sustainable development.
The GIZ operates in Morocco on behalf of several parties, such as the Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMUB), the Federal Ministry for Foreign Affairs (AA), the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi), the European Union, along with other partners.
As part of Morocco’s energy transition, which aims to reduce the country’s dependence on the importation of fossil energy, GIZ is undertaking several actions with its Moroccan partners for the development and promotion of renewable energies and energy efficiency. These actions focus on the personalized support of the private sector, advisory support to various stakeholders, and to research, vocational training and employment institutions. The development of basic skills, the stimulation of the market and the creation of new jobs, are at the heart of this support and will enable Morocco to position itself among the most important renewable energy leaders of the globe.
